It is not always feasible to have a private temperature and humidity controlled cellar in the home. Storing wines purchased for investment ‘in bond’ is crucial in guaranteeing the condition and provenance when you chose to re-enter the market. We similarly recommend that all wines not for immediate drinking are stored in our facilities to ensure they mature in optimum conditions as they approach their drinking window. We have highly competitive storage facilities for all wines in bond.

BWI is in the process of moving our storage facility from London City Bond (LCB) to EHD, a well established bonded warehouse.

The underground storage vault at EHD comprises one of the UK’s largest surviving WW2 air raid shelters and is situated at Brooklands, Weybridge, in Surrey.  This subterranean facility provides the ideal conditions for storing wine at an even temperature and optimal humidity.  Critically, we believe that EHD’s proactive, service led philosophy will enhance the efficiency of our logistics operations, with clear benefits to our clients.

EHD’s joint Managing Director Stuart Phelps says, “Our existing logistics team is probably one of the most experienced in Europe when it comes to moving and re-siting collections or auction purchases. In particular, we transport and handle our clients wine investments as a sommelier would."

Some wines are still in our own chamber within LCB's Chill Store, a specialised and temperature controlled area. Private Reserve wines are in the process of being stored underground at EHD’s Locke-King Vaults.

Throughout this transition and beyond you can rest assured that:

  • Each case of wine is allocated a unique stock and storage number for identification and proof of title
  • Rotation numbers are assigned when a case of wine has been paid for
  • Ownership is transferred to you and your Private Reserve account automatially activated
  • Your wine is safely ring fenced held under your name independently, exposing a clear audit trail to you away from our own inventory
  • Wines are insured at full replacement value

The charges for storage in our facilities are; £8.20 per case per year + VAT. We invoice every 6 months (August and February) rather than monthly saving you time and less paperwork.

These charges include insurance provided by LCB or EHD. The wine stored by BWI at these bonded warehouses is covered by the insurance policy at the full replacement value.
