Do’ s and Don’ts
Investigate your merchant before committing to a purchase, ensure they have a legitimate address and are registered like ourselves with companies house.
- Do ask your merchant to provide a client reference for you to speak to
- Do your homework, take note of all influences on the wine trade, such as wine critics, reports and wine scores
- Do consider the time period of investment.
- Don’t bank on a quick turnaround of profit.
- Do consider the storage costs over the time period you intend to hold the wine for.
- Do consider most merchants charge 10% commission or more on the sale of your wines.
- Don’t invest in more than you can afford.
- Don’t pay a consultancy/advisory or purchase fee when buying your wine.
- Do speak to your wine merchant regularly.
- Do be aware of market fluxuation, there are no guarentees in investment.
