About BWI - Your Partner for Wine
BWI are wine merchants, established in 1998 by Bordeaux fanatic Andy Lench. Andy was born in the midlands and moved to the United States when he was in his thirties, where his natural talent for spotting and securing outstanding wine allowed him to develop Bordeaux Wine Locators, an enormously successful business importing top wines from Bordeaux and other classic regions.
Andy founded BWI in 1998, as a UK-based sister company to Bordeaux Wine Locators. BWI was set up to offer wine opportunities for private clients who seek to buy, collect, enjoy and invest in fine Bordeaux wine.
In 2003 Andy recruited his brother and fellow Bordeaux enthusiast and wine lover Robert Lench as BWI's Managing Director. Rob had spent 30 years working in the financial services industry, including as a main board director for a major firm of stockbrokers. Rob has overseen significant growth at BWI, and turnover has increased at an average annual rate of 20% since his appointment.
Rooted in Bordeaux
In 2007 Andy realised his dream to set down deeper roots in Bordeaux, with the purchase of Château Carignan, in the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. This fifteenth-century Château is our home in Bordeaux. It is both a beautiful and welcoming base for visiting BWI staff and clients, and also the producer of acclaimed and outstandingly great value Bordeaux.
Bordeaux remains the key speciality and passion for BWI; we offer an expanding range of wines from over-performing Petits Châteaux such as Carignan, to the most sought-after and collectable wines of the region. BWI are experts in Bordeaux En Primeur. Our team, which includes Master of Wine Sarah Abbott, taste extensively in Bordeaux every year, and our annual Bordeaux En Primeur offer is supported by our Bordeaux Report. We also offer carefully sourced wines from Champagne, Burgundy and the Rhône, as well as the modern classics of the New World.
